Is Any Food Off-Limits with Ceramic Braces?

Posted on 11/23/2020 by Sawrie Orthodontics
Ceramic braces, or tooth colored braces, look like metal braces, except they blend in with the teeth. Therefore, they are not as noticeable as metal braces. However, you might draw attention to your braces if you are not careful about what you eat. Make sure you refrain from eating stain-causing foods, as the stains can leave their marks on the braces and elastic bands. What Foods Are Forbidden? When you wear ceramic braces, you need to avoid stain-causing foods, such as tomatoes, dark chocolate, colas, teas, and coffee. Red wine can also cause unwanted stains or discolorations. In addition, it is imperative to veer clear of foods that are too crunchy, hard, or sticky, as these foods can dislodge the brackets on your braces. The idea is to find nutritious foods that will not damage your braces or trigger the formation of cavities. Don't eat hard breads or crunch on ice. Also, don't chew on non-edibles, such as pens, as doing so can cause problems with straightening the teeth. What Foods Can I Eat? Softer foods will make it easier to stay on track orthodontically. For example, you can eat soft fruits, such as cantaloupe, grapefruit, nectarines, peaches, kiwi, and tangerines. Steam your vegetables so you can eat softened versions of broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots. Dairy products are always a good choice, especially if they include yogurt, milk, or cheese. Switch out tough meats, such as steaks, for tender baked chicken, meatloaf, seafood, or lunchmeat. If you get hungry for dessert, opt for treats, such as a smoothie or applesauce. You can get your daily grain intake by eating cooked rice or pasta, or choosing a soft bread, such as a muffin, pancakes, or biscuits. Eggs are yet another menu option that is good for brace wearers to eat. Wearing ceramic braces can make teeth straightening a positive experience. Just make sure you stay away from stain-producing foods and foods that may damage your braces. We can answer further questions about ceramic-made braces and other alignment products.
